Fear has been weaponized towards the queer community many times over the fight for LGBTQ+ equality. The recent outrageous legislature passed against trans and non-binary people is no different. We need more leaders that seek to protect and defend all people regardless of identity or expression, because they do it out of LOVE.
Instead current legislators have created laws in FEAR, that seek to intimidate and disrupt the lives of those who have identity’s they can’t understand. And, in turn, make what they don’t understand a “threat to society”. And, in turn, justify the actions of hateful people who want to take care of the threat on their own and intentionally cause harm to trans people. After fear consumes one state, it spreads to another state, and then another all for Trans people to face the brute end of this fear.
At Moonrise we believe every identity is valid, and we must put an end to this endless cycle of violence. There are so many ways we as humans can express ourselves and the very existence of gender non-conforming people isn’t a threat. Our differences are what make society beautiful, and we’re stronger because of it. We must come together, not to fight about how different we are, but to focus on the things we share in common, to focus on LOVE.
This Pride month, we stand in solidarity with the Trans community and want to focus on cultivating and spreading LOVE. We’re releasing a new seasonal candle this month with scents that bring peace, hoping to get people out of a state of fear and refocused on love. All proceeds from the sale of this candle during Pride month will go to Trans Lifeline.
Trans Lifeline is a grassroots hotline and microgrants 501(c)(3) non-profit organization offering direct emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis – for the trans community, by the trans community. We believe the best way we can help, besides encouraging conversation and action towards pro-Trans legislation, is giving funds directly to those who are impacted by the hateful legislation arising across the nation. Trans Lifeline does just that, as well as being a pillar of emotional support through their hotline which focuses on community-based support rather than police intervention or involuntary admission.
We encourage conversation on this topic and other hateful legislation ailing our country these days. They are not always easy conversations depending on who you’re talking to, but that’s when we want to remind you to focus on the LOVE. Try and understand where they’re coming from, not because you agree with them but because if they feel heard, they might hear you. If we avoid the hard conversations with those we know think differently, then we’ll never learn to see from the other’s perspective.
Happy Pride Month. Stay informed and be safe.
